Parks and Recreation There's a lot to do outside in Painted Post and the Town of Erwin. We've got great parks, rivers to fish and canoe in, along with biking and hiking trails. The town of Erwin is home to over 3000 acres of public land for hunting and hiking. Enjoy Craig Park pool in the summer; use one of our parks pavilions for large gatherings. Come on out and enjoy our out of doors! Hodgeman Park Named after another Erwin settler who operated Hodgeman's Mill at (nearly) the same site along the river, Hodgeman Park is owned by the Town of Erwin. Hodgeman Park is the location of the annual Colonial Days celebration. It also had a play ground, basketball courts, softball and soccer fields. There is also a pavilion that can be used for reunions and picnics. Pavilion Permits must be obtained thru the Erwin Town Clerk @ 936-3652. ![]() Craig Park Named after former village mayor Charles Craig. Craig Park has an outdoor pool open for public use during the summer. The pool can also be reserved for parties. Basketball, tennis, a sand volleyball court and a skateboard park make this park fun for the whole family. The jogging trail begins in Craig Park. The park has numerous open air picnic tables and grills and a large pavillion. Reservations for the park pavillion must be made thru the Village Clerk @ 962-4605. No glass containers are allowed.
Painted Post and surrounding communities have a lot to offer walkers, runners,and cyclists. Planners would call it an "emerald necklace". To residents it is a series of bike and pedestrian trails that connect the major parks, community spaces, and recreational assets in the Painted Post-Corning area. One mile or twenty-one miles are available for those who wish to travel at a slower pace. These fine community assets are available for the discovery of softball, fishing, tennis, soccer, lacrosse, cross country skiing, and family picnic areas. Painted Post is also part of the route of the annual Wineglass Marathon. Wildlife Management Area The Erwin Wildlife Management Area, For hunters, there is a variety of game available. Deer, wild turkey, grey squirrel, raccoon and ruffed grouse are the primary species. Small marsh pond units provide limited hunting for waterfowl. Fishermen can find Bass, Bullheads, and Panfish in the two man made ponds. Many hiking trails provide access for hiking, cross country skiing, and bird study. Extensive shrub plantings attract a wide variety of songbirds. Rivers The Chemung, Tioga, and Conhocton Rivers are healthy and vibrant. Take time for fishing.
